BootX Images |
If you're looking for a fun and easy mod for your OS X system a moded BootX Image may be just the thing for you. The is a relatively safe and ease of this mod makes it the perfect customization for all Mac OS X users, from Novice to Mac Wizard. The possibilities are are pretty much endless, but before you start modding your startup image, there is a tool you need that does all the Mac-Hackery for you: BootXChanger.
This simple little application comes with a set of "starter" images for your modding enjoyment. BootXChanger will allow you to mod your startup screen to just about anything you can dream up, (here's the kicker) if your on a PPC machine. For those Intel users out there (like me), its a bit more tricky. To make a long story short, to change the startup image on an intel machine the image you use can't be too "complex". That is to say, it is limited as to how many colors it can use as well as how complex the image is itself. If you want all the nitty-gritty details, you can read more about the complexities of this mod on Intel machines on Dave Dribin's Blog. It took a little fiddling with Photoshop, but I've managed to create few of my own replacement BootX images.
Below are some of my BootX images. (have a request, let me know)
